This tour offers a more personal and in-depth experience, ideal for visitors looking to spend time close to the animals and landscape in a relaxed, small-group setting.
The tour begins with a visit to the Shetland ponies, where guests will hear about their history and traditional uses, followed by time to interact with them and take photographs.
Guests will then be introduced to the working Border Collies, starting with a young pup at the very beginning of its training journey. This is followed by a demonstration of another dog at the next stage of training, giving insight into how skills develop over time.
A short drive in the farm’s 4×4 vehicles takes guests up into the hills to see a fully trained sheepdog working in a natural hill environment, demonstrating the calm control and partnership required for hill sheep work.
Following the dog demonstrations, guests are taken on a guided tour of Fethaland, a family farm with a history spanning over 150 years. The tour explores the landscape, the farm’s past, and its place within Shetland’s rural heritage.
The experience concludes back at the home croft with a cup of tea and a chat, offering time to relax, ask questions, and enjoy the setting.
